Open Source Mathematica® Notebook for Radio Wave Propagation Through the IONOSPHERE

A Mathematica® Notebook for 3D Ray Tracing for Radio Waves in the IONOSPHERE has been developed based on the FORTRAN Code by:

R. Michael Jones, Judith J. Stephenson, A Versatile Three-Dimensional Ray Tracing Compute Program for Radio Waves in the Ionosphere, OT Report 75-75, US Department of Commerce, October 1975

The Open Source Mathematica® Notebook and various tools are available at the RadioCalc.COM site. The FORTRAN Code based on the published code in Jones and Stephenson is also available here. It took an extensive effort to Scan, OCR, debug and port the CDC Mainframe FORTRAN to GNU gfortran. Below is a plot of computed ray traces at different elevation angles propagating through the Ionosphere (Plotted using Capsim V7 QT Based on MACOS X and Java IIPPLOT).

The Mathematica® Notebook is Open Source GPL V3. Using Mathematica® enables Research and Development in Radio Wave Propagation at a whole new level.
